Daily Gazette & Comet [Baton Rouge , LA], February 11, 1860
On Thursday night for the first time, there was a trial of the Gas works. Although the apparatus is entirely new, the pipes just laid, and still unsettled, it was a brilliant triumph. The street lights were in full color, and a number of houses illuminated. Thus quietly in a very brief period, a work has been accomplished by a few of our enterprising citizens, to confer general benefits. We venture to say that no equal amount of work to this, was ever undertaken in Louisiana and carried through to completion in a shorter space of time. Great credit is due one and all the employees of the company for their expedition.
