More Kidnapping In Kansas

The New York Times, July 27, 1860

The Leavenworth Times, 21st, says: “We are again called upon to record a case of kidnapping in this vicinity. Two free negro men have resided for the last six months in the South part of this county, with Mrs. SAMPSON, a colored woman, near the Delaware Mission. They were banished from Arkansas under the recent law, and have been industriously employed all the season in raising a crop of corn. On Wednesday night the house of Mrs. SAMPSON was broken into by three men, the negroes seized and forced into a close carriage and driven off in the direction of Delaware. No paper or authority was shown. The residence and names of the captors are unknown, but suspicion points to the same men who captured HOPE KUNARD. These negro men had certificates of good character from several men in Arkansas, and certificates of freedom from the clerk of one of the courts, which had been exhibited to several white persons in the vicinity.”
