From Mark W Delahay to Abraham Lincoln

Leavenworth June 30th 1860
Hon A Lincoln
My Dear Sir,
The Editorial slip1 herewith transmitted is one of a series of Bleeding Editorials which I propose to write for the Times by way of furnishing food for the campaign in the States; I am satisfied they should be copied by all the Republican papers in the free states, and commented upon, not that I think them well or ably written, but not to give them General circulation must be a political omission by such papers as wish at heart to make this Campaign as near as certain victory as possible, it may be in bad taste for your home organ to republish thesel Bleeding articles But there ought to be some understanding by the Press, and there is a way to have it done — You must pardon now as in the past if my Judgment should differ from your own as to a line of policy — our Lot is a hard one, our Political grevience is great, and while we suffer for the Crimes of a corrupt and unscrupulous party (now I trust in rapid decay) you should be benefited by our wrongs and our suffering, the cause and the country should reap the gain to which fair comments upon our Loss and criminal neglect will Justify — “I expect no reply”
Truly Your friend
M W Delahay
