Discharged

1860s newsprint

Daily Advocate  [Baton Rouge, LA], September 11, 1860

The three men arrested on Sunday night for tampering with slaves were arraigned this morning before Justice Walker. There was not sufficient evidence to convict them, and they were discharged with a recommendation from the Judge that they leave town. They gave their names as James Burk, Patrick Maloy and Wm. Phelps. The remark was general among the spectators that, although the names were Hibernian, the countenances were not.
